John Leo Maxwell was born December 25, 1950 in Beloit, Kansas to Glenn and Joyce Dryden Maxwell. John passed away early October 23, 2005 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit after a very short battle with cancer.
John graduated from Beloit High School in 1969. He then served in the US Navy from 1971 to 1974. Shortly after, he went to work for the City of Beloit. He worked there for 31 years and was currently foreman of the waste management system.
John was a member of the First Christian Church. He served as an elder, deacon, and he volunteered for many other activities in the Church.
John was a life member of the local VFW, and also delivered meals on wheels.
John was loved by everyone. He never wanted to be a bother, but he was always ready to help in any way. He will be missed by the Beloit community.
He is survived by two sisters, Gaila Simmons and her husband Darrell of Novelty, Missouri, and Marianne DeJong and her husband Don of Alto, Michigan; nieces and nephews, Randy Simmons and his wife Brandi, Tammi Simmons Perry and husband Tyler; Ben, Luke, and Joyanna DeJong; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at the First Christian Church with Dave Mealiff and Doug Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
