John E. Schneider was born on September 26, 1950 to Barnard and Helen (Hollis) Schneider in Beloit, Kansas. He passed away on Wednesday March 8, 2023 at Hays Medical Center surrounded by his family at the age of 72.
As a youth he attended Victor and Hunter Grade Schools until unified and then graduated from Beloit High in 1968. John attended Kansas State University and Bethany College. He holds season tickets to Kansas State Football to this day.
On August 7, 1976 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Jensen. They were soon blessed with two children, Brandon and Marissa.
John was proud of his service to our country and his occupation and military specialty was that of 62Bravo20 Engineer Mechanic. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post #77, holding many positions and participating in countless Memorial services throughout the years. He served as Treasurer for the Round Springs Cemetery, where the family has been custodians for over 40 years.
John participated in 4-H through his childhood and was fortunate to share his love of the organization with his children. Brandon and Marissa showed cattle throughout their youth while learning important life lessons and making friends. Over the years, he has served on the MCRWD #2 and was a past member of the Hunter Lions Club. John was passionate about serving his community.
John was a lifelong farmer and loved being a steward of the land and never minded the long hours on the tractor. He was an avid cattleman, especially enjoying the calving season. John was a gifted mechanic, having learned from his dad and didn't encounter a problem that he couldn't fix on the farm or in the house. Patience may have been his greatest skill and Brandon will undoubtedly miss his guidance. He was immensely proud of Brandon carrying out his legacy, especially as his health began to fail.
He was a devote Christian and an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter. His faith was of utmost importance and he lived his life loving his family, animals, especially his schnauzer, Bowser, that recently died while he was in the hospital.
John loved driving his 1979 red Corvette and he and Marilyn made many short trips in it, but couldn't be out after dark without a flashlight, as the dash lights did not work. He loved taking his grandson Nixon for rides and the two delighted in Ranger treks out to check the cows. He loved to attend Nixon's musical and sporting events whenever possible. He was also very proud of all the accomplishments of his children and their spouses.
John is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 45 years; son, Brandon (Serrina) of Beloit; daughter, Marissa (Justin) Long of Bennington; and grandson, Nixon Long. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.J. and Helen Schneider.
John was a very loving, kind, and compassionate husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family and all who were fortunate to know him.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, March 14 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present from 5-6 PM Monday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
