Johnnie "Dale" Ahlvers was born on September 17, 1922 on a farm south of Glen Elder, Kansas in Mitchell County. He departed this life on March 25, 2011 at his home in Ellsworth, Kansas at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 8 days.
Dale was born to John A.P. Ahlvers and Lena M. (Dieckman) Ahlvers.
He attended grade school at Hayes Dist. 96 and high school at Glen Elder, as well as various trade schools.
He was a school teacher and worked in an aircraft plant prior to service in the US Army during World War II.
On October 10, 1942, Dale was united in marriage to Margie L. Reischick. To this union 2 sons were born: Dale Eugene and Dennis Lee.
After Dale returned from the service, they farmed 10 years, moved to Ft. Worth, Texas for 18 months, then to Westminster, Colorado for 30 years. He worked prior to retirement for 24 years manufacturing ice cream sandwiches for most of Colorado and parts of surrounding states. While in Colorado, Dale was a real estate salesman for 25 years.
After retiring in 1980, they spent time in Colorado, Kansas, and Southern Texas.
Dale loved his family, wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, riding trail bikes, and playing cards.
Dale was a member of the Lutheran Church, 22 years of the Colorado Dairy Technical Society, American Legion Post #77, and life member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Jessie; and two great grandchildren, Connie and William.
Dale is survived by his wife, Margie; two sons, Dale E. and wife Judy and Dennis L. and wife Karen; grandchildren, Leann McKinzey and husband John, Lena Brummer and husband Mark, Johnathan Ahlvers and wife Tina, and Jolene Ahlvers; great grandchildren, David and Megan McKinzey, Bria Gillette, Katlyn and Colton Brummer, Cameron Frayling, Jasmine and Lily Ahlvers, and Rose and Brooke Ahlvers.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 29 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter followed by cremation. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday at McDonald Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
