Josephine Edna Schoolfield was born on September 8, 1936 in Hilt, California, the daughter of William Jenning Bryan Roush and Martha Kristiane Wilhelmine Dithmart. She died January 1, 2022 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 85.
Jo, as she was known, attended and graduated from Yreka High School, and later attended San Jose State University, where she majored in business and music.
She married Carlos Goddard, and two children were born, Sid and Dollma. She later married Jessie Robert Schoolfield.
Jo was a very loving woman, who put her loved ones first and was protective as a Mama Bear. She was known for being funny, quick witted, stubborn, and serious when called for, and was very giving of her unconditional love.
Her younger life was interesting, and she was unapologetic in living her life. Her niece wrote a book with Jo's head strong persona in nearly every page – "White Poplar, Black Locust" by Louise Wagenknect.
She loved the snow, as it reminded her of her childhood home, and God called her home on the first snow in 2022. She also loved music, and played the piano proficiently, playing for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasco, as well as St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit.
She also loved her little dogs, Pugs, Buddy, and Reme, who she's now able to be with again.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carlos Goddard and Jessie Schoolfield; her parents; and her grandson, Tommy Keith.
She is survived by her children, Sid Goddard (Krystal Martin) of Beloit, Dollma Kohler (David) of Beloit, and Nancy Trivett of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Tiffany Lowe, Jessica Liby-Claycamp (Billy), Derek Liby, MaKenna Kohler, Remi Tuttle, and Bane Tuttle; great-grandchildren, Caleb Claycamp, Aubrey Claycamp, Zoey Liby, Faith Lowe, and Blaze Lowe; sister, Barbara Louise Brannon; nieces, Louise Christine and Elizabeth Ann; and nephew, Thomas Lee.
She will be terribly missed, but her words of encouragement and wisdom, and the love she gave us all will go on forever.
