Joyce E. Kohler

Joyce Elaine Tolbert Ammons Kohler was born on December 1, 1947 in Beloit, Kansas, the second daughter of Eldridge (Croak) L. and Myrtle Diers Tolbert. She died on Sunday, October 15, 2006 in Hutchinson, Kansas after a short fight with leukemia at the age of 58 years, 10 months, and 14 days.
Joyce grew up in the rural Hunter area, and attended the Victor school until the 7th grade, when the school closed. She graduated from Hunter Grade School and then Hunter High School with the class of 1965. She lived her entire life in Mitchell County except for about six months, when she lived in Wichita and worked for Beech Aircraft.
On March 16, 1968, she was united in marriage to Ronald Ray Ammons in Hunter. To this union, two sons were born, Bryan Dean and Martin Shane Ammons. They made their home in Beloit, where she worked as a bookkeeper at JC Penneys, Pestinger Distributing, Schnell and Pestinger, Moritz Implement, and the Farmway CO-OP. Ronald passed away on October 5, 1979.
On June 6, 1981, she was united in marriage to Norbert Peter Kohler in Beloit, where they continued to reside.
Joyce was baptized at the Hunter Methodist Church, and later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Beloit. She was a member of the Christ Encounter Sunday School class, and the church choir. She was an active member of the community with Meals on Wheels, and the Cancer Walk. She was an avid seamstress, and enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning, and being with her two grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, Ronald, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves to revere her memory her husband Norbert of the home; two sons, Bryan Dean and Martin Shane Ammons, both of Beloit; two grandchildren, Matthew Bryan and Makenzie Nicole Ammons; two sisters, Arleta Rae Conaway and her husband Eugene of Smith Center, and Billie Ann Payne and her husband Ronald of Hunter; one uncle, Birdie (Jack) Tolbert and his wife Pearl of Wichita; three step-sons, John, David, and Michael Kohler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 18, at the Beloit United Methodist Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Hunter, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the church or the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit.
