Judd S. Thierolf

January 10, 1938 — January 7, 2009

Judd S. Thierolf was born January 10, 1938 to Robert W. and Ila M. Stichler Thierolf at Beloit, Kansas. His release from a lengthy illness came early Wednesday morning, January 7, 2009 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, ending a life of 70 years, 11 months, and 28 days.
Judd graduated from Beloit High School and then continued his education at Kansas University in Lawrence. There, he met Judith Ann Lesch who on January 8, 1958 became his beloved wife. They made their home in Beloit and were the proud parents of three children Tami, Grant, and Kerry.
After returning to Beloit, Judd joined his parents in the operation of Thierolf Grain Company located just east of Beloit on Highway 9. This institution was founded by his grandfather Carl Thierolf, and Judd was a key player in the success of the business, eager to do any task that came up.
Family man extraordinaire, Judd was the epitome of what a father should be….always there for his children. He scheduled his life around their activities. Always cheering them on, he inspired and expected them to do their very best. He loved sports and for many years ran the score clock at Beloit High School. As his grandchildren grew, he loved attending their activities. Happiest moments were spent fishing at the lake with his family on the pontoon boat.
Judd also had two other great loves: music and antique cars. He loved music of all types and for a long time played in groups such as the Edgar Hake Trio, New Arrangement, and the Tauqua Judd Band. He played bass, guitar, and banjo. He loved going to concerts, especially when his children and grandchildren were participating. His passion for antique cars included restoring them and showing them in parades. Always eager for a challenge, his greatest project was the masterful restoration of a 1941 Lincoln Zephyr. He also enjoyed working on old airplanes with Kenny Hake in Tipton.
Always believing in the American system, Judd loved politics. During the 1960's, as a member of the Young Republicans, he was an ardent supporter that played a vital role in Robert Dole's successful campaign for the United States Senate.
Judd was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Mount Vernon Lodge #145 AF&AM.
He was preceded in death by his father and one beloved grandson Alex Studer.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Judy of the home, his mother Ila Thierolf of Beloit; one son Grant Thierolf and wife Deanna of Marion, Kansas; two daughters Tami Pruitt and husband Dan of Beloit, Kerry Benson and husband Jeff of Beloit; one sister Jane Wallace and husband Don of Beloit; one aunt Pauline Girard of Pueblo, Colorado; eight grandchildren Nicole McLain (Mike), Brad Pruitt, Jeff Pruitt, Alex Studer-deceased, Joe Studer, Matt Thierolf, Connor Thierolf, Kaelyn Thierolf and one great grandchild Owen McLain.
