Judy Kay Weakley was born on March 6, 1947, in Frankfort, Kansas, daughter of Howard Eugene and Elizabeth Rae Hungerford Bronaugh. She died mid-afternoon Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the Hilltop Lodge Health and Rehabilitation in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 11 days.
Judy grew up and attended school in Frankfort. She was raised on a farm, learned early about hard work, dedication, and caring, and with these values, she followed in her mom's footsteps and continued her education at Emporia State University to earn her degree and become an LPN.
In 1972, she was united in marriage with James Joseph Weakley in Emporia. In this union, she received two sons and a daughter from Jim's previous marriage, and was blessed with 2 sons born to this union. They were privileged to spend more than 43 years of marriage together until Jim's passing in 2015.
Following their marriage, Jim and Judy moved from Emporia to Beloit, where she worked at Hilltop for 20 years. They later moved to Leoti, where she worked at Park Lane Nursing Home. After Jim's retirement in 2010, they moved to Cawker City, and she continued to work at Hilltop until retirement.
Judy loved being a nurse, caring for countless patients and family members at Hilltop and Parklane. She enjoyed all of her time coaching and helping out with the Special Olympics for many years. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, going hunting and fishing. When she wasn't in the flower and vegetable gardens, she loved being in the kitchen making many meals for friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Marge Pressgrove. Judy is survived by four sons: Mark of Lenexa, Paul and wife Brittany of Emporia, Scott and wife Michelle of Ogden, Michael of Cawker City; daughter Luann McQuitty and husband Shawn of Independence; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of friends and nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be at 1:30 Saturday, August 16th at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to Special Olympics.
