Kae Bowles passed away at home surrounded by her family Sunday, May 27, 2012 after a long illness.
Kae was born August 29, 1957 in Beloit, KS and was raised on a farm southwest of Beloit. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1975 and later received a Business Degree from Brown Mackie College in Salina.
She worked as horticulture secretary at the Sedgwick County Extension Office for the past eleven years.
Kae was an active member of the Sedgwick County Extension Master Gardeners. She taught gardening and composting classes for the Extension Office, always enjoyed helping others, gardening, and the outdoors. She set up the Sedgwick County Plant a Row for the Hungry program which has collected over 350,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables for the needy in Sedgwick County over the past decade.
She is survived by the love of her life, husband Dan Bowles, her son Levi Bowles and wife Kristin Whitehair of Lawrence; her parents Marcellus and Winnie Weber of rural Beloit; her brother Ron Weber and wife Laura of rural Beloit; and niece Gayle Donaldson and husband Brian of Hays.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church by Father Joseph Kieffer. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. The family requests memorials be given to the Mitchell County 4H Foundation, Plant A Row 4 The Hungry Foundation or the Sedgwick County Extension Master Gardeners. Kae will lie in state from 9 AM until 4:00 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home. The Parish Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
