Kathryn Henderson

Kathryn Elizabeth Henderson was born on January 18, 1939 in Gorham, Kansas, the first child of Fred and Linetta Wagner Zimmerman. She died suddenly on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at her home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 82 years.

She grew up in western Kansas and spent a lot of time at her grandmother's house.  attended a one room schoolhouse and then public school at Russell. She graduated from Morrowville High School in 1956 where she was active in the glee club and playing sousaphone in the band. On October 26, 1958, she was united in marriage with Eldon Henderson in Washington, KS. Three children were born to this union, Debra, James, and Ellen. The family briefly lived in Fairbury and Lincoln, Nebraska, before moving to Glasco in the fall of 1962, where Eldon opened the station, and she the family. They were privileged to spend more than 54 years of marriage together before he died in May 2013.

In addition to raising her family, she was an avid seamstress, and also enjoyed crocheting, and in later years quilting. She was a tremendous cook, and nobody ever left the table hungry. She also enjoyed gardening, and from the garden did a lot of canning. She loved walking, and walked many miles each day for more than 40 years, participating and supporting the Walk Kansas program. When she walked, she used that as her best time to do her thinking and relaxing.

Kathryn was also very active in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she served in the Ladies Aid and Church Council for many years. She taught Sunday school, catechism, and Bible school. She also was involved in the Glasco Public Library, where she was active in the Mother Goose Story Hour, initially sponsored by the Glasco Lauraceae study Club.

In addition to her husband Eldon, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Alvin Zimmerman and Fred Zimmerman, Jr.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Debra and husband Donald Heiland Jr. of Topeka, James of Lindsborg, and Ellen Henderson of Junction City; one grandson, Donald Heiland III and his wife Vidhi; two sisters, JoAnn Moore of Haddam, Kansas and Mary Ellen Marschman of Fairbury, Nebraska; and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday, September 2 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glasco. Visitation will be from Noon to 7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Church or Glasco Public Library.
