Kenneth L. Murray

July 10, 1941 — September 30, 2012

Kenneth Lynn Murray, the son of Ralph and Virginia Patten Murray was born July 10, 1941 in Missouri. He departed this life of 71 years, 2 months, and 20 days late Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2012 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
"Ken", as he was commonly known, proudly served his country in the United States Army Infantry during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Alaska and Germany.
He was married to Ann Adkins and to this union Ryan, Joel, Kelly, and Erin were born. This union was later dissolved. On December 21, 1991 he married Debra Lee Horsfall at Zion Lutheran Church. They made their home in Simpson, Kansas.
During his life, Ken did a number of things. He loved education and held degrees from the University of Missouri and Southwestern University. Vocationally, he enjoyed selling books, was an insurance salesman, and also worked as an exterminator. More recently, he became a Registered Nurse, graduating from the Cloud County Community College Nursing Program. He was director of nursing at the former Delphos Rest Home, worked at the Mitchell County Hospital for a time and then was on the staff at Hilltop Lodge until an accident forced him to quit.
Ken was a person of many interests. His quiet, introspective personality enabled him to absorb and discuss history, especially that of the Civil War. He enjoyed membership in the Quivira Gun Club and the Tappen Hill Gun Club BPCR. His family was always special to him and was very proud of his children and their accomplishments.
He was a member of the Isis Shrine, NCK Shriners, and the Scottish Rite.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Ryan Murray, and his son Joel who died in the Iraq War.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Debra of the home; children Kelly Caballero and husband Luis of Fort Collins, CO, Erin Mackenzie and husband David of Indiana, a daughter-in-law Maricel Murray of Junction City, KS; a sister Pat Strickland of Shawnee, KS; and seven grandchildren.
