Kenneth “Kenny” Lee Vetter, age 79, of Beloit, Kansas, passed away on April 29th, 2026 at MCHHS. He was born January 7th, 1947, to Don and Betty Vetter, and his grandparents were Lee and Hilda Vetter, and O.J. and Alice Hiserote. He was the eldest of his siblings Sid and Ardella. Kenny was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church.
Kenny grew up in Beloit and spent many happy times on Lee and Hilda’s farm north of Solomon Rapids. The family also enjoyed camping, boating and fishing at various lakes in Kansas and the Ozarks. Many memorable times were spent with great aunts and uncles and cousins.
Kenny attended Beloit Public Schools and was active in band and football. It was during this time that he earned his long-time nickname “Toe” which stemmed from either his ability or his ineptness to kick a football. Kenny graduated from BHS in 1965 as the class treasurer. He kept friendships with many of his classmates.
Kenny then attended Fort Hays State University, where he received his Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting, in 1973. During his time at FHSU he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
After graduation Kenny spent some time in Tucson, Arizona where Sid was attending University of Arizona. He then began his accounting career, with the City of Topeka briefly, the City of Wichita for several years, Cunningham Telephone Co. for 8 years, Vetter and Wessling Farm Co, and Farmway CO-OP. Kenny was known for his meticulous book keeping. In his later years, when he excused himself from occasional family gatherings with a “I got book work to do” this often elicited a round of giggles from his nieces.
Eventually his love of farming was fulfilled when he became a partner in the Vetter-Wessling Farms where he worked with his brother-in-law, Roger Wessling. Having another generation living on the Vetter home place brought a feeling of closeness to land and family for Kenny, especially to his young nieces and nephews. It also gave him another reason to wear his beloved cowboy boots.
As Kenny’s health began to decline, he passed time watching his favorite old Western movies and reading farm journals. He dutifully attended holidays, birthdays and family dinners and of course, always took home a plate of leftovers. He would often inquire about his nieces and nephews and their children to learn about their various endeavors.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Betty, and brother-in-law Roger Wessling. He is survived by his brother and Sister in Law Sid and Virginia Vetter; sister, Ardella Wessling, nieces Natalie (Jason) Lucas, Gerica (Brett) Bankson, Sandy Wessling, and nephew Andrew (Michelle) Vetter. Great nieces and nephews include Liam Lucas (19) Mila Lucas (13) Azlynn Bankson (13)Asa Bankson (12) Atlas Vetter (9) and Maia Vetter (7).
Memorial services will be at 2 PM Friday, May 8 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 1 PM. Memorials may be given to Beloit High School FFA or the Beloit Ministerial Alliance.
