Kenneth Lee Wilcoxson, the son of Russell Delbert and Berniece Emillie Mollenkopf Wilcoxson, was born November 12, 1931 at Jewell, Kansas. His life of 74 years, and 11 months, ended early Thursday morning, October 12, 2006 at Via Christi-St. Joseph Hospital.
Kenneth spent his childhood years in Smith Center where he attended and graduated from high school. He loved football and played running back.
Following graduation, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Navy. He made serving his country his career, and saw action both in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his last tour of duty in the Vietnam War, he was a gunner's mate first class and fired the 12mm guns on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk. His final discharge was on December 1, 1971.
It was on August 14, 1954 that he was united in marriage to Alice Jean Hicks. To this union were born two sons Kenneth Jr., Michael who died in infancy, daughters Sheila, Cathy, Debra, and Jennifer.
Kenneth and his family lived in Beloit from about 1974 until about 1977. While in Beloit, he worked for Fuller Chevrolet as a parts retailer. In 1977, they made their home in Wichita where he worked for Foley Tractor Company and finally at Federal Wholesale.
A quiet and cheerful person, he was always quick to tell a joke or pull a prank. Kenneth loved his country and the values and principles for which it stands. He cherished his family and loved the chance to be with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In earlier years, he loved spending time with woodworking. Home was where his heart was as he enjoyed helping Alice with housework. One of his favorite activities was mowing his yard. He was preceded in death by his father Russell Wilcoxson, one infant son Michael; one brother Delbert who died during childhood, and two brothers Kendall Wilcoxson and Darrell Wilcoxson and his wife Louise, and two brothers-in-law Gilbert Hackerott and Wayne Hicks.
Survivors are his wife Alice of the home, his mother Berniece Wilcoxson of Beloit; one son Kenneth Wilcoxson Jr. of Wichita, daughters Sheila Wagner and husband Greg of Beloit, Cathy and Debra Wilcoxson both of Wichita, Jennifer Foster and husband Frank of Mena, Arkansas; one sister Lillis Jo Hackerott of Torrance, California; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 16, 2006 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Funeral Expense Fund or the Silent Bible Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
