Kevin Lee Krier was born on October 15, 1960 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Marvin M. and Dorothy Arnoldy Krier. He died on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 47 years, 3 months, and 18 days.
He grew up in Beloit, and graduated from St. John's High School. He began sports writing during his high school years, and wrote for the Beloit Daily Call. Following graduation, he served in the United States Air Force from 1979 – 1983. Following his service, he attended Fort Hays State University, where he earned his degree in journalism and communications. He had currently been working as the sports editor for the Coffeyville Journal.
Kevin had a great passion for sports, and had a life-long dream of being a sports writer and editor. He achieved that dream, as he served as sports writer and editor for several newspapers throughout his career.
He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Marvin, and his sister, Nancy.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Krier of Beloit; two sisters, Ruth Griess and her husband Barry of Phillipsburg, and Barbara Umscheid and her companion Bob Glick of Newton; one brother, Jerry Krier of Salina; two nephews, Brandon Umscheid of Wichita and Joseph Krier of Salina; one niece, Jennifer Krier of Salina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial mass will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 7 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit followed by burial of the cremains in St. Boniface Cemetery in Tipton. A rosary service will be at 6:00 PM Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Coffeyville Community College Athletic Department or the American Diabetes Association. There will be no visitation.
