Larel "Larry" V. Goodaker

Larel "Larry" Von Goodaker was born on April 24, 1938 in Monterey, California, the son of William and Helen Lester Goodaker. He died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 11 days.
Larry, as he was known, grew up and attended school in California. At the age of 16, he entered the military and started his career in the Navy, training as a Navy Seal. After several years of Naval service, he served in the Army, and served in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. In 1967, he retired with disability from the military. He was very proud of his service to the United States and was awarded the Presidential Golden Seal.
On October 17, 1982, he was united in marriage to Michel Cashman in Westminster, California. Later, they moved their family to Barnard, Kansas.
Larry loved to fish and hunt, and spent a lot of his spare time working on vehicles and fixing things around the house. He also took great pleasure in helping others.
He was a member of the Salina VFW.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Diane Goodaker.
He is survived by his wife Michel of the home; one daughter, Larita Goodaker of Beloit; two sons, Michael of Barnard, and Jeff and his wife Christina of Glasco; one grandson, Grant; one brother, Bill Goodaker of Westminster, California; one sister, Helen Sasser of Pensacola, Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, January 11 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Saltville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Funeral Expense Fund.
