Lawrence "Larry" Willis Beck, a loving husband and father died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas. He was the oldest son of Willis and Ethel Melton Beck. He was born October 10, 1917 in Solomon Township, Cloud County, Kansas. He spent his childhood on the family farm southwest of Glasco; received his education in the Glasco schools and graduated from Glasco Rural High School in 1936.
On April 17, 1940, he was united in marriage to Millie Schramek. Three daughters were born to this union; Sherrill, Gloria, and Terry. Larry and Millie started housekeeping on his father's farm, and in 1945, his career started with the telephone system. First, he was a repairman in Glasco; later he continued that career Alma, Kansas. Then, he moved to Wisconsin where he was an installer-repairman. He retired from General Telephone Company in Sun Prairie, WI after 25 years as a right-of-way agent. His retirement was spent in Glasco where he enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, attending auctions (always on the lookout for old tools to add to his collection) and spending time with his family and friends.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Millie, at home; his daughters Sherrill Downey of Appleton, WI, Gloria (Glenn) Schulz of Mt. Horeb, WI, and Terry (Jim) Mills of New Lisbon, WI; one sister Dora Chapman of Beloit; 3 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren; plus several nieces and nephews; and many friends. In addition to his parents, his brother Robert preceded him in death.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and no visitation or memorial service will be held. McDonald-Roberts Funeral Home has been helpful in arranging Larry's wishes.
