Lela Heiman

Lela Heiman, 92, formerly from Beloit, recently from Belleville passed away peacefully on February 28 ^th , 2021 after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family as she went to her eternal home.

Lela was born at home on November 8 ^th , 1928 to Herman and Merle Wiese at Tipton, Kansas. After graduating from Hunter High School, she obtained her teaching certificate from Kansas Wesleyan University. She married Eugene Heiman in 1948 and they were married for 58 years.

Lela taught for several years prior to her marriage and the birth of her children. She was adept at sewing and was creative with her designs. Up until two weeks before her death, she was still active with embroidery and crocheting and gifted many people with colorful doilies.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters (Lola Streit and Joyce Kimmerer); husband (Eugene); and an infant daughter Jeannie Marie.

She is survived by her sister, Elaine Liddel; her eight children: Steven (Diane) Heiman Belleville, Kansas; Reva Hoffer Atwood, Kansas; Roger (Barbara) Heiman Tucson, Arizona; Kathy (Brad) Burnham Murfreesboro Tennessee; June Heiman (Jim) Phoenix, Arizona; Jim (Julie) Heiman Topeka, Kansas; Jeff (Leia) Heiman Beloit, Kansas; Jay Heiman Barnard, Kansas; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, March 6 at the St. Edward's Catholic Church in Belleville followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery in Beloit. A vigil service will be at 7 PM Friday, March 5 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home in Beloit. Visitation will be from 1 PM until the vigil service begins. Memorials may be given to the Diocese of Salina/Prayer in Action, Meadowlark Hospice, or the Republic County Senior Center.
