Cawker City

Leo "Lee" Allen Mick, age 68, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025 at Salina Regional Hospital.

Lee was born September 13, 1956 in Beloit, Kansas to Conrad and Ann Thummel Mick.

He lived his entire life in Cawker City, Kansas.  Lee graduated valedictorian from Waconda East High School in 1974.  He met the love of his life, Denelle Walker, on a blind date in 1976.  They married November 25, 1978 on a snowy day in Cawker City. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage and had two children, Travis and Shawna. They enjoyed dancing, going to concerts, and spoiling their grandchildren.

Lee starting working at Richardson's, then to Barnett Manufacturing, and retired from AGCO after 28 years of employment.  He received the AGCO Chairman's award in 2007.  Lee was a man of many talents, including amazing cake decorating skills, beautiful poetry, and could make anyone laugh.  He owned his own screen printing business for several years and loved the creativity of designing and producing a product.  Music was a huge part of Lee's life, and he loved DJing weddings and parties for several years. Dance parties in the garage were a highlight for the grandkids.

Lee was a lifetime member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic church in Cawker City.  He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He loved telling his family that his dislike of cantaloupe started because of the nuns making him clean his plate at lunch. He had strong faith in the Lord and knew that a heavenly kingdom awaited him after he left this world behind.

Lee loved nothing more than his family. He was affectionately known to his family as Papa Lee.  He spent years attending his children's and grandchildren's games, concerts, art shows, and other activities.  He baked the best cookies and treats and was always eager to share with his family and friends.  He loved the Kansas Jayhawks, collecting his treasures, and listening to music on his patio.  He built a strong relationship with every one of his grandchildren and they will always treasure the memories they shared together.

Lee is survived by his loving wife, Denelle Mick of Cawker City. He is also survived by his children, Travis Mick (Cassi) of Cawker City, and Shawna Doane (Craig) of Downs, his grandchildren Johnathan, Colton, Maddi Mick and Emmett and Briggs Doane.  He is also survived by his sister Rita Moritz, sisters-in-laws Linda Mick, Marcia Mick, and brothers-in-law Dan Mills and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Gib Greiner, siblings- Richard Mick, Millie Mick, Lois Otto, Betty Hilgers, Eugene Mick, Marilyn Mills, and Randy Mick.
