Leona Flavin

September 20, 1934 — March 31, 2013

Leona Marie (Jasper) Flavin was born on September 20, 1934, the third of Leo and Cecelia (Konzem) Jasper's eight children. She married Harold Flavin on April 11th, 1959 in Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Cawker City, Kansas. Leona and Harold brought up their five children on a small farm north of Cawker.
Leona died on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2013 at the age of 78. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
Leona enjoyed gardening, quilting and baking throughout her life. She was well regarded for her service to the community and her church. She worked as a nurse most of her life. After graduating from St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, Leona began her nursing career at National Jewish Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She later worked at Osborne County Memorial and Parkview Nursing Center. She was a dedicated hospice volunteer for more than 25 years and was active in many local organizations. She will be warmly remembered for her fun-loving spirit, as well as her respect for the rural way of life and her devotion to her family and her faith.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Cecelia (Konzem) Jasper and her sister, Marcena Wall. She is survived by her husband, Harold, three daughters, Karin O'Reilly of McPherson, Kansas; Jeanne Flavin of New York City, and Elaine Flagg of Palmer, Alaska; two sons, John Flavin of Olathe, Kansas and Craig Flavin of Salina, Kansas; two sons-in-law (David O'Reilly and Mitch Flagg), four grandchildren; and three sisters (Dorothy Pasqua of Denver, Marilyn Hunt of Salina, Kansas, Loretta Jasper of Concordia, Kansas) and three brothers (Herman of Colorado Springs, Eugene of Cincinnati, and Charles of Leawood, Kansas), as well as a large extended family.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, April 3 at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City followed by burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. A parish rosary service will be held at 7 PM Tuesday at the church, and visitation will be from 4 PM until the rosary service begins. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
