Leona "Peggy" Koenigsman, age 86 of Beloit, passed away peacefully at Hilltop Lodge on December 28, 2018.
Peggy was born on July 29, 1932 to Fred and Agnes (Gengler) Hennes in Scottsville, Kansas. On November 23, 1954, she married Wilfred "Fred" Koenigsman and was happily married for 63 years. She graduated from St. John's High School.
Peggy worked for the City of Beloit, First Federal Savings and Loan, and later worked for the Beloit Motor Company. When her children were small, she was a stay-at-home mom and worked occasionally during harvest at the Feed Mill, or took in sewing jobs. Peggy was an excellent seamstress and sewed for many different people, and especially for her family. There was nothing she couldn't make or alter.
Peggy was the "big sister" to all her younger siblings, taking after her mother, Agnes. She made home-made quilts for her family. She was an avid quilter for the St. John's Quilters group. She also enjoyed gardening with Fred every year. There was a lot of competition between the two, which led to a bounty of produce often shared with everyone. She was very good at canning and making her famous "Peggy Pickles". Many folks benefited from her crocheting, denim quilts, and afghans. All grandkids have some of her handiwork and will certainly treasure them. Grandma loved her grandchildren and enjoyed their many visits. Peggy enjoyed many years of retirement with Fred, and the two of them especially enjoyed the Sunday trips to get ice cream and then drive the "loop" around the countryside.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Jim, Dick, Bob, and Fred; and one sister, Mary Lou (Bob) Ellenz. She is survived by her children, Jeanne (Kevin) Vering, Pat (Joe) Ludwig, Janet (Ian) Drake, all of Beloit, and Dan (Ann) Koenigsman of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Alberta (Norman) Hake of Tipton, Rose (Gary) Emerick of Ridgway, PA, and Mona (Larry) Mikkelson of Warren, NJ; 10 grandchildren, Kendra (Matt) Lay, Kyle (Danielle) Vering, Dr. Jacob (Lauren) Ludwig, Kimberly (Chris) LeSage, Robert Ludwig, Ryan Koenigsman, Amy Koenigsman, Darin (Jennifer) Drake, Derek (Nicole) Drake, and Dana Drake; 16 great grandchildren, Emma and Ava Lay, Kenadee Gillespie, Scarlett, Isabella, Katherine, and Alexandra Ludwig, Brecken and Brody LeSage, Alexis, Kyla, Tinley, and Kenzie Drake, Dominic, Declan, and Dexter Drake; and a host of nieces and nephews.
