Leta R. Dameron

Leta Ruth Dameron was born on May 12, 1925 in Asherville, Kansas, the daughter of Frank R. and Ruth E. (Dawes) Shurts. She died Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Resident Care Center in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 94.

A lifetime resident of Mitchell County, she attended grade school at Greenmound School through eighth grade, and later graduated Valedictorian from Asherville High School in 1943. Following graduation, she studied business at Brown Mackie in Salina.

On June 17, 1945, she was united in marriage with Tommy D. Dameron. Three children were born to this union – Tommy D. Dameron Jr., Robert J. Dameron, and Pamela J. Dameron. They were privileged to spend 49 years of marriage together until his death in October, 1994.

In August, 2002, Leta married Harold Seely. Harold had three children from his previous marriage – Alvin (Cindy) Seely, Clarence Seely, and Susan Johnson. Harold passed away in June, 2019.

Leta worked in various places in Beloit including the Mitchell County Extension Office, Raney Drug Store and Soda Fountain, Beloit 5 & 10, and the Mitchell County Farm Bureau before retiring in 1988. She also served as the Beloit Township Treasurer.

Leta enjoyed tending to her flowers, fishing trips with her husband, Tom and her sisters and brothers-in-law at Lake Taneycomo, and cooking and baking – cake mix cookies were her favorite and favorites of family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and raising vegetables, which she shared with family and neighbors. She also loved collecting Precious Moments figurines. A highlight for Leta was enjoying coffee with friends at Gray Drug & Fountain.

Leta was a faithful member of the Beloit First Christian Church. She accepted Jesus early in life and was baptized into Christ in a stock tank at the farm of her aunt and uncle.

Leta is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Tom, and by her 2 nd husband, Harold, her parents; siblings, Louise Shurts, Dale Shurts, Fern (Shurts) McMann, and Martha Jane (Janie) Shurts Yager; and her daughter-in-law, Nancy Dameron.

Leta is survived by her three children, Tom and wife Julie, Bob and wife Debra, and Pam and husband Brad Fogo; five grandchildren, Kristi (Christopher) Jefferson, Jaime Dorris, Michael Dameron, Kelli  (Jeremy) Whitney, and Hannah Roberts; eight great grandchildren, Savanna, Dakota, Colton, Paisley, Miles, Maisey, Marley, and Mosley. As well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 19 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM with family present from 6-7:30 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Beloit First Christian Church or Solomon Valley Hospice.
