Lloyd Schreuder was born September 15, 1918 in Cawker City, Kansas, the son of Peter and Tracie Folger Schreuder. He died early Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Downs Nursing Center in Downs, Kansas at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 19 days.
Lloyd grew up on the family farm, and attended the Cottonwood Grade School before graduating from Cawker City High School in 1936.
On May 20, 1940, he was united in marriage to Lois Browning in Chase, Kansas. Three daughters were born to this union. After their marriage, they lived in Cawker City, where Lloyd worked for the CO-OP for 43 years, retiring in 1980.
Next to his wife Lois, music was his second love. In the 1930's, Lloyd started playing in the Cottonwood Trio with Logan Stoeber and Carl Reling. He later played in the DAL Trio with Darrell Chandler and Art Tucker from 1968 to 1978.
Lloyd was a member of the Cawker City United Methodist Church, a 62-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and was a 60-year member of O.E.S.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Peggy Schlaefli; and two brothers, Hilvert and Merle "Dutch" Schreuder.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Lois, of the home; two daughters, Janice Doherty of Salina, and Connie Hocking and her husband Jim of Brookville; six grandchildren, Kim Viets, Bill Schlaefli, Susan Elting, Jennie Hocking, Pete Hocking, and Jillian Hocking; four great grandchildren, Anne Schlaefli, Maryssa Schlaefli, Reata Elting, and Ainsley Viets; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 PM Saturday, April 8, at the Cawker City United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given to the church or Solomon Valley Hospice. There will be no visitation-the body was cremated.
