Lloyd Stewart Shackelton was born July 30, 1921 to Henry and Minnie Shackelton at Trenton, Nebraska. He departed this life of 88 years Monday, November 9, 2009 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.
Lloyd was raised by his grandparents, and he graduated from high school in Trenton.
Lloyd was a carpenter and lived for many years in McAllaster, Kansas. He married Rmelda Smith Cook on February 14, 1974 in Goodland, Kansas and became the loving father to her children Tamara, Clyde, Sylvia, Bob, Carolyn, James, Nancy, and Cheryl. In April, 2006 he and Rmelda moved to Beloit to be closer to Tamara and a short time later made their home at 1312 North Hersey.
An ornery, fun-loving person, Lloyd enjoyed his family and his work. He was especially fond of his grandchildren, having nicknames for all of them. During the Korean War, he served in the 1st Special Service Force in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Richard, two sisters Evelyn and Patricia and a stepson Clyde Cook, Jr.
Survivors are his wife Rmelda of the home, children Tamara Cook-Unrein & husband Ray of Beloit, Sylvia Moore & husband Fred, James Perry Cook & wife Barb, Nancy Evans & husband Tom all of Phoenix, Arizona; Bob Cook & wife Betsy of Cornville, Arizona, Carolyn Wagner of Farmington, New Mexico, Cheryl Schaffer & husband Jerry of California; sisters Donna, Nancy, Juanita, and Elaine; a host of many grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives.
Pastor Tim Clever of the First Christian Church will officiate at the Funeral Services which will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service and the ashes will be privately buried at a later date in the Russell Springs Cemetery, Russell Springs, Kanssa. The family requests memorials be given to Solomon Valley Hospice. Friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home from 1 PM-5 PM Wednesday.
