Lloyd F. Tiemann

Lt. Col. Lloyd Frederick Tiemann, age 84, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 in Beloit, Kansas. Lloyd was born August 2nd, 1931 at the family farm in Elkhart Township, near Lincoln, Kansas to Ferdinand Frederick and Anna Caroline Arkebauer Tiemann. He and his twin brother Floyd were the last of 8 children. He grew up on the farm, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, where he was a member of the Gamma Delta & Beta Sigma Pi fraternities, and also the collegiate 4-H Club.
Lloyd received his ROTC commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in May 1953, serving from August 11th, 1953 to November 1st, 1973 when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He participated as a Dual Aeronautical Flying Rating (Navigator-December 1954 & Electronic Countermeasures August 1955). He was assigned to Strategic Air Command (SAC) as Combat Crew Member and Hdq. Staff (B-36, B-52 & B-58 aircraft) for 10 years. He was also assigned to the Air Force Institute of Technology for 2 ½ years (Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from University of Oklahoma). He was assigned to Tactical Air Command as a Combat Crew Member (EB-66C)/ He also participated in a Combat Tour in Southeast Asia flying Electronic Reconnaissance Missions (144 missions) over North Vietnam for 1 year (May 1968-May 1969). Lloyd was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 7 air medals. Lloyd was assigned to Air Force Logistics Command as the Detachment Squadron Commander of Management Engineering & Manpower Office for 4 years. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Lloyd also received several other Air Force medals and citations during his military career.
He first married Glenda Darlene Hines in 1957 and together they had two sons. They were married until 1975.
After retiring from the military, he was a commercial building estimator, and the Superintendent and Bookkeeper for a commercial dirt contractor operating heavy equipment. In 1986, he returned to the family farm in Elkhart Township where he lived and continued to farm. Lloyd married Betty Jo Melton Brummer on 5 August 1991. They lived in Beloit but continued to farm the Tiemann farm in Lincoln County, until he finally retired in 2013.
Those left behind to mourn his passing are his wife Betty; sons Scott (Alice) Tiemann and Randy (Peggy) Tiemann; step-sons Michael (Charissa) Brummer and Mark Brummer; grandchildren Kelsey (Joe) Krushinski and Kyle Tiemann, Christopher and Cody Tiemann, Vanessa (Zachary) Schwarz, Cole Brummer and Zachary Brummer. Lloyd's living siblings include Evelyn Finley of Gardner, KS, Olivia Smith of Mission, KS, Floyd (Mary) Tiemann of Lewis, KS.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents Ferdinand and Anna Tiemann and siblings Adeline, Delores, Mildred, and Orvin.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Monday, May 2, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 8:00PM Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Post Rock Humane Society, Mitchell County Food Pantry, or Zion Lutheran Church Luther Park.
