Lola Louise Kresin Golladay was born August 29, 1912 to Albert and Minnie Ahlvers Kresin in Glen Elder, Kansas. She died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit at the age of 94 years, 5 months, and 1 day.
As a child, she attended Everest School near her home, and later graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1931, where she was a member of the girl's basketball team.
She was married to Floyd Golladay in Beloit on February 6, 1932. One son, Larry, was born to this union. They were privileged to have spent more than 54 years together until Floyd's death in 1986. They lived on a farm five miles southwest of Beloit until 1964, at which time they moved to Beloit. Floyd was a farmer and in later years drove the school bus. Lola was employed for 11 years as a cook at the Beloit Elementary School. Catching a glimpse of her grandchildren making their way through the lunch line was the highlight of her day.
Floyd and Lola belonged to several card clubs over the years, and enjoyed playing pitch and pinochle. Lola was a charter member of the YMW Club. After her retirement, she spent many hours quilting with the ladies of the Zion Lutheran Church.
Lola was always an avid sports fan, especially watching their son Larry play baseball, basketball, and football. In later years, she greatly enjoyed watching baseball games on television.
Lola was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was an accomplished cook, and family dinners at her home were a special treat.
She moved to Hilltop Lodge in 1998 when her health began to fail. Always an outgoing person, she made many friends there, and was elected Valentine Queen by her fellow residents in 2001.
She was baptized as a small child at the Tipton Lutheran Church, later transferring her membership to the Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit.
In addition to her husband, Floyd, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clayton Kresin; and two sisters, Wilma Kresin Studer and Fern Kresin Schoen.
Lola is survived by her son, Larry and his wife Billie of Beloit; her grandson, Mark and his wife Jan of Cypress, Texas; her granddaughter, Susan Durham and her husband Steve of Beloit; five great grandchildren, Courtney, Mackenzie, and Thomas Golladay of Cypress, and Tanner and Zachary Durham of Beloit; one brother, Elwyn Kresin and his wife Peggy of Beloit; and a host of other relatives and friends.
