Lola R. Sutton, age 91, passed away at the Golden Living Center, Wilson, Kansas on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Lola was born on March 12, 1921, the middle child of 7 brothers and sisters to James and Goldie Metcalf Collins. Lola grew up in the Simpson and Asherville area. She graduated from high school in 1939 and got a job that she thoroughly loved at the Model Bakery in Beloit. She married Ralph Sutton on March 7, 1945 at the Colmery VA Medical Hospital in Topeka, Kansas when Ralph returned from WWII as a POW. They made their home in Hunter and raised three children, Gary, Ronald, and Phyllis.

Lola worked hard through the years with whatever needed done. She never hesitated lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Lola was a fantastic cook, loved to sew, enjoyed her garden, and loved raising her family. She spent many cold mornings helping Ralph with the chores. Lola and her sisters were proud to have published a cookbook in honor of their Mother.

Through the years, Lola was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Grace Chapel United Methodist Church, National Rural Carriers Association, Pink Ladies, and served on the election committee in Hunter. Lola recorded the rainfall/temperature for the National Weather Service for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; her parents; sisters Hazel Srna, Mary Haines, and Dixie Collins, and brothers Tom and William. She leaves her children Gary (Mary) Sutton of Alta Vista, Ron (Karolyn) Sutton of Sylvan grove, Phyllis Denning (Clyde) of St. Marys; one sister Catherine (Lucille) Clemons; six grandchildren Michelle, Michael, Robert, Rick, Bill, and Jennifer, and many great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Monday, October 15, 2012 at the McDonald Funeral Home with burial following in the Greenwood Union Cemetery at Hunter. Pastor Pat Ault-Duell of the Grace Chapel United Methodist Church will officiate. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Kansas. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit.
