Lorraine Ellen Gaskill was born January 4, 1915 to George and Opal Rickman Winkel at Cawker City, Kansas. Her life of 94 years and six days ended late Saturday afternoon, January 10, 2009 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
Lorraine spent her childhood years living in Cawker City.
On October 5, 1935, she was united in marriage with Stanley Royal Gaskill at Nelson, Nebraska. This happy union was blessed with two children Larry and Sharon.
Lorraine and her family made their home in Beloit. Stanley was a section hand for the Union Pacific Railroad. She enjoyed taking care of her home and family.
For many years, Lorraine was a child care provider and took care of a lot of children during the work day; many of which called her "Grandma".
A quiet, soft spoken and proper person, Lorraine treasured her family and being there for them. She loved crafts, especially quilting and was active in the Quilting Circle at Zion Lutheran Church. She looked forward to taking long walks. Lorraine also enjoyed traveling, and she always looked forward to going to Branson with her family.
Lorraine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Miriam Circle and the Quilters.
Her husband Stanley died in 1992. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Max Edward Winkel who died in infancy; sisters Wilma Wright, Geraldine Benge, and Carole File whom she raised like a daughter.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Larry Gaskill and wife Bonnie of Beloit, Sharon Shelton and husband Richard of Rogers, Arkansas; one sister Phyllis Wells of Hill City; grandchildren Jerry, Jan, and Jimmy Shelton, Jolene Carroll, Brian Gaskill, Brenda Hollaway and Lisa Seamans; great grandchildren Nick Brush, Leah and Angela Shelton, Zachary and Luke Gaskill; and two special nephews Steve and Sheldon File.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, Mitchell County Hospital Long Term Care Unit, or the charity of the donor's choice. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
