Louetta (Lou) Mick of Beloit, Kansas was born to Henry and Martha Schmitt in Tipton, Kansas on November 10, 1928, and left this world at the age of 94 on July 28, 2023 at MCHHS in Beloit. She finally got the answer she had been asking all day Wednesday, "Have I died yet?" Finally, Mom, you received the affirmative answer you were looking for! Lou graduated from THS and moved to Topeka, where she worked at the State Capitol in the Income Tax Division. Lou returned to Tipton where she married her sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Mick on October 24, 1949.
Lou worked as Tipton's city clerk for a number of years. While doing this, she also enjoyed styling women's hair (have to love those clamps, pin curls, and enough hair spray to battle the Kansas winds). Of the countless jobs Lou held, her favorite one was working at Moritz Lumber and Supply in Tipton.
She was a devout member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Altar Society, and EHU, all of Tipton.
Bob and Lou were blessed with 8 children. Two days before her death, she would take as deep a breath as she could and in birth order she said Lori, Alan, Dona, Dion, Lois, Rita, Ruth, and Lisa…I love you all! Lou wore many hats in her lifetime, but the ones she was most proud of was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had many hobbies, loving to be on the go. She played cards, always keeping score – maybe this was so no one would catch her cheating. Lou also loved Bingo, dominoes, putting puzzles together, and watching game shows, golfing, KU and K-State, and Chiefs games. In earlier years, she loved to go golfing. She relied on Chris Falloon of Beloit to take her places, especially getting her hair and nails done. He was her favorite driver.
Lou was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents Henry and Martha; her sisters, Caroline Krier, Mary Pirotte, Bernice Stroh, and Janice Stover; son-in-law, Jeff Emerson; and great-grandson, Ethan Koster.
Lou is survived by two sister, Alice Hake of McPherson, and Joan Smith of Ft. Morgan, CO; brother, Eugene Schmitt of Tipton; her children, Lori (Dave) Cordel of Beloit, Alan (Gloria) Mick of Adkins, TX, Dona (Tom) Koster of Manhattan, Dion (Anna) Mick of Wichita, Lois (Jeff, deceased) Emerson of Beloit, Rita (Dana) Hazen of Wakarusa, Ruth (Roger) Emerson of Beloit, and Lisa (Lynn) Mick-Keck of Rio Rancho, NM; 23 grandchildren; & 32 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. All siblings are listed in order, just like Mom remembered them.
Lou left her mark on the world with an ever-present smile. She touched many hearts and her angel food cake with brown sugar frosting will be her legacy.
….. (in Mom's words) Bye for now.
