Louise D. Matous

February 17, 1921 — September 23, 2009

Beloit

Louise Dorothy Matous was born on her parents' farm near Browns Creek northwest of Beloit on February 17, 1921 to Joseph and Anna Koch Schmitt. She died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 6 days.
She grew up and attended the Browns Creek country school for 8 years before attending and graduating from St. John's High School in 1940.
After graduation, Louise went to work at the Model Bakery in Beloit, where she met her husband to be, Frank Matous. They were united in marriage on November 27, 1944 at St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. They were blessed with two children, a daughter Joan, and a son Harold (Harry).
After 7 years of marriage, Frank passed away following his fight with cancer. She alone became the main provider for her family and raised her small children by working as a housekeeper at the Mitchell County Hospital and later in the laundry department at Hilltop Lodge.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, and the Catholic Daughters.
Her biggest enjoyment in her life was her family. She enjoyed going to their programs and activities. She also enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of her garden. She had her favorite soap operas she watched on TV, and liked playing cards for fun.
In addition to her husband Frank, Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Joseph; her son-in-law, Terry Melton; two brothers, James and Donald Schmitt; and a sister, Esther.
Louise is survived by her daughter Joan Melton of Bonner Springs, Kansas; her son Harry Matous of Dallas; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, Stacie Ternes and husband Craig and children Brooklyn and Addison, Michael Melton and daughter April, Cindy Melton and children Jessica and Jake, and Ursula Denley and husband Larry and their children Clinton, Clay, and Joann; four great great grandchildren, Levi, Brian, Adrianna, and Carter; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Father Joseph Kieffer will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice.
