Lovena Cora King was born on February 13, 1912 in Cloud County, Kansas, the daughter of John and Della Stortz Wisbey. She died Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 94 years, 8 months, and 10 days.
Lovena grew up on the farm and attended the Bethel Country School.
On November 29, 1933, she was united in marriage to Richard B. King. One son was born to this union. They were privileged to spend more than 50 years of marriage together until his death in July of 1984.
Following their marriage, they lived on a farm east of Glasco before moving to town in 1975. During their retirement years they enjoyed their winters spent in Texas. Lovena also traveled to Alaska, England, and Scotland. She also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends at the Senior Center.
Lovena was a member of the Glasco Christian Church, and was very involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Matron, Conductress, and Marshal.
In addition to her husband, Richard, she was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Glen Harmon, Arthur Wisbey, and Loren Wisbey.
Lovena is survived by her son, Don and his wife, Yulonda of Pleasant Hill, MO; one step-sister, Norma Graham and her husband Bill of Miltonvale; two sisters-in-law, Mary Wisbey and Eva Harmon; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kelleen Kay and Steve Rice and Pamela Lynn and Steve Huish; and four great grandchildren, Mathew and Kathryn Buffon and Kaylin and Brett Huish; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Friday, October 27, at the Dean Funeral Home in Glasco with burial at Bethel Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Nicol Home. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until service time Friday at the funeral home.
