Lowell J. Neifert was born on October 19, 1931 on the family farm in Cawker City, Kansas, the son of Herbert and Vera Barnett Neifert. He died Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 86 years, 8 months, and 10 days.
He grew up and attended schools in Glen Elder, where he met his future wife Joan Porter. He graduated from Glen Elder High School and entered the United States Army.
On September 19, 1951, he and Joan were united in marriage while he was home on furlough. He went back to finish his service in the Army and was discharged in May, 1953.
When he returned for good, they lived on the farm, and later moved to town in 1964. He drove for the Farmway CO-OP for more than 35 years and retired in 1995.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as watching the birds and squirrels. In June 2016, he had the privilege of going to Washington DC on the NCK Honor Flight – an experience that he greatly enjoyed.
He was a member of the Glen Elder Christian Church, American Legion Post #143, and the Glen Elder Lions Club.
Lowell is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Diane Weber; and sisters, Sally File and June Osborne.
He is survived by his wife Joan; daughter, Debra Stalcup and husband Jim of Glen Elder; sons, Steve and wife Deborah of Hendersonville, TN, and Jeff and significant other Debbie Butvin of Plano, TX; son-in-law, Ivan Weber and wife Janet of Concordia; sisters, Judy Rodell of Cawker City and Barbara Brown of Quinter; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be at 10 AM Monday, July 2 at the Glen Elder First Christian Church. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place & there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Church or American Legion Post #143.Glen Elder Christian Church
