Luella Augusta (Kloppel) Eller of Beloit, Kansas departed this life on July 24, 2008 to be in Heaven with her Savior.
Luella, who preferred to be called Lou, was born July 1, 1910 to August and Amelia (Winkler) Kloppel in Leigh, NE. She attended high school in Leigh, graduating with the class of 1928. She later graduated from beauty school in Fremont, NE. Lou married George Walter Eller on June 14, 1931 in Leigh. They were married for 49 years. Born to this union were four children, three daughters and one son, Janet Specht, Joann Norris, Gordon Eller, and Ruth Bell.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, in 1980; two brothers, Otto and Floyd Kloppel; two sisters, Anna Rahtz and Flossie Held and their spouses; one son-in-law, Ed Specht; and two grandchildren, Michael W. Norris and Shari Lynn Eller.
Left to mourn her death and celebrate her life are her children, Janet L. Specht of Beloit, Joann G. Norris and husband Curt of Beloit, Gordon W. Eller MD and wife Ann of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Ruth A. Bell and husband Jim of Beloit; her 14 grandchildren, Gilbert Specht (Jeanette), Rogene Valdez (Jerry), Mark Norris (Chris), Jeff Norris (Janel), Patrick Norris (Dana), Tamara Littlefield (Mark), Angie Darrow (John), Vicki Callaway (Lance), Marci Pancoast (Art), Julie Eller, Carrie Wunderlich (Bobbie), Charissa Brummer (Mike), Troy Baxter (April), and Josh Bell; 26 great grandchildren, Justin Norris (Andrea), Jami Swanson (Seth), Shane Norris and fiancé Alissa Brugger, Lindsey Norris, Michael and Mason Norris, Ryan and Josh Littlefield, Curtis, Cassy, and Steven Viar, Chantelle and John Michael Darrow, Landon Callaway, Victoria, Emily, and Gordon Pancoast, Blake, Parker, Ellee Lu, and Karlee Dawn Baxter, Vanessa and Cole Brummer, and Jordan, Joel, and Jenna Norris; three great-great grandsons, Shay and Caden Swanson, and Gavin Norris; and an AFS son, Gerhard Stede, Germany.
Luella was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and very active in the church life. She was a devoted pastor's wife and opened her home to the public, parishioner, and many church activities. Her home was also a 2nd home to many BHS students who lived in the country. She belonged to circles, Women of the ELCA, Zion quilters, taught and attended Sunday school, helped with bible school, and active in bible studies. She loved to read, enjoyed TV, played pitch and pinochle, and taught her grandchildren how to count by playing marbles. She sewed many outfits for her children and grandchildren including formals and coats. She made a quillo for each of her grandchildren. She became very professional at leather tooling and made each of her children and grandchildren at their confirmation a leather tooled bible cover with their name on it. With his large garden, George kept Lou busy canning and cooking. Their freezers also had lots of fish from their many fishing trips. Her gallon jars of homemade pickles and black walnut/raisin bread were enjoyed at many church dinners. Lou also kept her apple cookie jar filled with fresh baked cookies. While she lived in Cape Girardeau, she was active in St. Mark Lutheran Church and volunteered at St. Francis Medical Center at the beauty shop. She shared many stories of her experiences.
Luella was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and in her 98 years formed many friendships. She always had a listening ear and caring manner. Throughout her life, she made a home in Leigh, NE, Fremont, NE, Gypsum, CO, Beloit, KS, Marquette, KS, Springfield, MO, Cape Girardeau, MO, and then back to Beloit. Lou's family and friends will miss her, but celebrate her long life and the time God loaned her to us.

Funeral Services will be at 2:30 PM Saturday, July 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 PM Friday with the family recieving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 at the McDonald Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials donated to the Zion Lutheran Church.
