Mae Marie Poulton was born August 3, 1941 on the family farm near Asherville, Kansas, the daughter of Guy and Helen Stephens Hull. She died early Monday, January 12, 2009 in the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 67 years, 5 months, and 9 days.
She grew up on the family farm and attended Asherville Grade School before attending and graduating from Beloit High School in the Class of 1959. She loved sports and was a gifted athlete during her school years and continued to play softball for several more years.
On July 3, 1960, she was united in marriage to Roy V. Poulton in Beloit. Two children were born to this union. After their marriage, they continued to live in Beloit, and enjoyed traveling together to many different places. They were privileged to spend 33 years of marriage together until Roy's death in July of 1993.
Mae's love of sports continued, and she enjoyed watching car races and football games. She also kept busy in her yard, and really enjoyed gardening and planting.
In addition to her husband, Roy, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Mae is survived by her son, Scott Poulton and his wife Josie of Salina; her daughter, Brenda Schmitz and her husband Jan of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Kalisha Poulton and Holly Schmitz; two step-grandchildren, Jordan and Amanda Perry; one brother, Tom Hull and his wife Mary Sue of Asherville; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Ireland and Bernese Colby, both of Beloit; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 14 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, and from 9:00 AM to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or Charity of Donor's Choice.
