Margaret D. Coad

Margaret Deloris Coad was born on February 28, 1915 in Osborne County, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Alice Bergier Gates. She died early Thursday, November 03, 2005 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 3 days.
Margaret grew up and attended school at Corinth before graduating from Downs High School in the Class of 1933.
On August 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Clayton L. Coad. Five children were born to this union. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1991, and were privileged to spend more than 52 years of marriage together until his death in April of 1994.
After their marriage, they lived in Hunter before moving to Cawker City, and later to Dighton. They returned to Cawker City in 1956, and she continued to live there until she moved to Salina in November of 2003.
Margaret enjoyed crafts, quilting, sewing, raising flowers, and baking wedding cakes. She was a life member of the Cawker City Baptist Church, and she was also a member of the American Baptist Women, O.E.S., American Legion Auxiliary, and was very active in the Cawker City Senior Center, where she and Clayton were among the founders.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clayton; one brother, Raymond Gates; and one great granddaughter, Abigail Rose Ratke.
Margaret is survived by four sons, Dwight and his wife Dorothy of Fremont, California, Ronald and his wife Dianna of Salina, Loren and his wife Debra of Gilbert, Arizona, and Dennis and his wife Rhonda of Huntsville, Alabama; one daughter, Sharon Coad of Salina; one sister, Oletha Rexroat and her husband Walker of Downs; one sister-in-law, Marge Gates of Concordia; 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 7, at the Cawker City Baptist Church with burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Baptist Church or the Cawker City Senior Center. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Sunday at the Waconda Funeral Home, 815 West First, Cawker City, KS 67430.
