Margaret Ruth Cunningham, Glen Elder, passed away at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit on December 14, 2011, at the age of 79. She was born May 27, 1932, in Beloit to John and Louise Tindle Way.
Margaret graduated from Beloit High School in 1950. Shortly after that she met and soon married Dean Robert (Bob) Cunningham on September 8, 1950 at Pleasant View United Methodist Church. They celebrated 61 years together this year. To this union two sons were born, John Dean and David Bruce.
Bob and Margaret resided in Glen Elder, Beloit and Jamestown. In 1956, they acquired the Jamestown Telephone Exchange where Margaret ran the switch board in the evenings and through the night. In 1977, they moved back to Glen Elder to take over the management of Cunningham Telephone Company. Margaret served as Secretary and Treasurer until she retired.
After retirement, they spent many years traveling with friends. They spent the last 22 years wintering at their second home in Yuma, Arizona. Those years made many happy memories.
Margaret belonged to several bridge clubs and enjoyed playing all kinds of cards. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. She was an avid sports fan, following her kids' and grandkids' sporting events.
She was an active member of the Glen Elder Christian Church and a member of Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and doing crafts. She was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
She leaves to mourn her passing, husband, Bob; sons, John (Janet) Cunningham, David (Brenda) Cunningham; sister Judy (Jerry) Dean; grandchildren: Brent (Jessica) Cunningham, Terry (Crystal) Cunningham, all of Glen Elder, Kelsey Cunningham, Salina, and Keah Cunningham, Lawrence; six great grandchildren: Drew, Tanna, Bailee, Kylan, Jace and Quentin Cunningham, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Margaret was a very warm and caring person. She leaves with us a legacy of love and compassion.
