Margaret Seibert Emmot was born on September 4, 1915 in Beatrice, Nebraska, the daughter of Howard and Arta Seibert DeShazo. She died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 100 years, 6 months, and 6 days.
She grew up in Nebraska before moving with her family to Beloit, where she graduated from Beloit High School in 1933. Following graduation, she attended Ft. Hays State University for two years.
On March 7, 1937, she was united in marriage with Donald W. Emmot. Two sons, James Donald and William Seibert were born to this union. They were privileged to spend nearly 56 years of marriage together until his death in February, 1993.
Margaret enjoyed helping on the farm in many ways, including the dairy cattle, chickens, and in the harvest fields.
She was very active in the Beloit First Christian Church, and was also a member of the Eastern Star, Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, the Social Order Beauceants, and was the president of the PTA.
Margaret later moved into Hilltop Lodge, and later moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 2009. In 2013, she returned to Hilltop Lodge.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, William and James; and a granddaughter, Angela Dawn.
Margaret is survived by her daughter-in-law, Loretta Madrid; four grandchildren, Jeffery, Lisa, Kathleen, and Brian; great grandchildren, Zachary, Ellen, Robert, Sarah, Ashley, Sydney, Matthew, and Melissa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM Friday, May 27 at the McDonald Funeral Home, followed by interment of the cremains in Elmwood Cemetery. Cremation has been chosen, and there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Beloit First Christian Church.
