Marilyn Mareen Endsley was born September 16, 1934 to Clemford William and Mary Rosella Russell Kulp at Beloit, Kansas. She departed this life of 79 years peacefully on Tuesday morning, October 1, 2013 at her home in Beloit, Kansas.
Marilyn grew up in Holton, Kansas where she graduated from Holton High School in the Class of 1952. She excelled in music, having played flute in the band and was a twirler. She continued her education at the University of Kansas; after one year she taught school in Randall, Kansas and then returned to KU and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, University of Kansas Concert Band and Choir. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1958. In the 1970's Marilyn completed her Master's degree in Education at Fort Hays State University.
On July 1, 1972, she married Ernest Floyd Endsley at First United Methodist Church in Beloit.
Marilyn had a deep love for education, children, music and community. For thirty-four years, she taught at the Beloit Elementary School where she was the favorite second grade teacher of many students. She loved children and was passionate about helping them learn. An accomplished flutist and pianist, Marilyn enjoyed playing whenever possible and delighted in teaching children and adult piano lessons. Marilyn was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Grand Matron and was proud to be the First Lady of the Isis Shrine in 2012.
Marilyn was also very devoted to her family. She cherished the role of grandmother and delighted in being with her grandchildren whenever possible. She looked forward to hunting season and was a champion pie-baker for the hunters that visited every year.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and took pride in directing many youth choirs, was Sunday School teacher, youth director and started the prayer quilts ministry in the church.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her husband Ernest "Ernie" Endsley of the home; daughter Mary Lynn Blacklock and husband Carlos of Derby, Kansas; son Marvin Hodgson and wife Marla of Ankeny, Iowa; two step sons Ernest F. Endsley II and wife Shelly of Kansas City, MO, Troy Endsley and wife Jennifer of Downs, KS; one brother James C. Kulp and wife Mary Jane of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; five grandchildren Kelli Blacklock, Kimberly Blacklock, Zachary Ryan Hodgson, David Endsley and Shay Endsley and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 7, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Shriner's Crippled Children Travel Fund, Solomon Valley Hospice or the Kulp Memorial Scholarship. Marilyn will lie in state from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
