Marilyn Deane Vossman was born March 29, 1931 in Concordia, KS to Dean and Blanche (Koch) Stratton, and went to her eternal home on August 27, 2023 after a courageous battle with dementia and Parkinsons.
Marilyn graduated from St. John High School in 1949, met Dennis Vossman at the S&S Drug Store soda fountain where she worked, they married June 12, 1951 and resided in Beloit their entire lives. To this marriage of 66 years were born five children, Carolie, Janis, Steve, Brian and Lynn. Marilyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a faithful Catholic, very active in her church, organized Ladies Guild funeral dinners for 20 years, was a soloist for many weddings and funerals, lover of all things sweet, a voracious reader, an avid walker with an ornery streak and she loved making May baskets or anything crafty. Marilyn and Dennis were true partners in life as parents and travelers with their last trip being to Jerusalem as they wanted to walk where Jesus walked. Proof of her quiet strength was demonstrated when Marilyn was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001.
Marilyn is survived by daughters Carolie (Kit) Meade, Estero, FL; Janis (Mike) Crow, Manhattan, KS; and Lynn Fleming, Beloit; son Steve, Wichita; daughter in law Rochelle Vossman, Olathe; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Dennis and Marilyn hosted a French AFS student, Corinne Laborde who became a beloved member of the family. They enjoyed many trips together within the United States and abroad. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Dennis in 2018, sister Barb Hennes in 2015, son Brian in 2020 and son-in-law Danny Fleming in July 2023. While she will be missed by family and friends, her passing is truly a blessing as she has been removed from the limitations of her earthly body and reunited with her Savior, her beloved husband and family.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, September 1 at the St. John's Catholic Church. A rosary service will be at 7 PM Thursday, & visitation will take place just prior to the rosary service at the Church. Memorials may be given to the St. John's Ladies Guild or Solomon Valley Hospice.
