Marjean A. Konzem

February 18, 1926 — July 11, 2011

Marjean Ann Konzem, the only child of Frank Joseph and Margaret Mary Zimmerman Witt, was born February 18, 1926 on a farm near Tipton, Kansas. She departed this life of 85 years, 4 months and 21 days early Monday evening, July 11, 2011 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

Marjean and her family moved to a farm in the Athens community. She attended Athens Rural High School and then graduated from Beloit High School in the Class of 1943.

It was on May 9, 1946 that she married Hubert Philip Konzem at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. Three children Gail, Janet, and Sherry were born to this happy union. They made their home in a farm in southern Jewell County from 1946 until moving into Beloit in 1978.

Marjean treasured her family and her home. She was always very proud and supportive of her children, greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending all of their activities. She was always proud of the fact that her children and grandchildren all graduated from college. Marjean loved to cook and for many years was a cook for the St. John's School. Quieter moments were happiest spent watching Lawrence Welk and the Kansas City Royals. She also enjoyed music and loved John Wayne movies and Westerns.
She was a devout member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and being active in the altar guild. In addition, she was a member of the VFW Post 6242 Auxiliary.

Her husband Hubert died in 2004. In addition, Marjean was preceded in death by her parents.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Gail Konzem and wife Cheryl of Salina, Janet Fischer and husband Kenneth of Beloit, Sherry Tiernan and husband Mike of Beloit; two sisters-in-law Marian Combs of Littleton, CO, Rosella Eilert of Beloit; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren with one enroute, and many friends.


Father Joseph Kieffer will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Friday, july 15, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. John's Memorial Trust Fund or the Salina Education Foundation. Friends may call from 9 AM until 8 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home where the Parish Vigil & Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M.
