Marjorie A. Newquist

Marjorie Ann Newquist was born on March 5, 1930 on a farm southwest of Cawker City, Kansas, the daughter of Ellis and Ruby Woodbury Clausen. She died early Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 9 days.
She spent her whole life in the Cawker City area, graduating from Cawker City High School in1947. On October 17, 1951, she was united in marriage with John August Newquist at her parents' home, and two sons were born to this union. After their marriage, they moved to the farm 3 miles south of where she was born and raised. They were privileged to spend nearly 40 years of marriage together until his death in September 1991.
Marjorie was an active member of the Cawker City United Methodist Church, where she helped with many funeral dinners and taught Sunday school, as well as worked in the Nursery. She spent a lot of her free time baking cookies and cinnamon rolls, and was always the chief cook during harvest, when she would always deliver the meals to the fields.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Rex and Lewis Clausen.
Marjorie is survived by her two sons, Waldo and his wife Linda Newquist of Salina, and Stan Newquist of Cawker City; two granddaughters, Emily and Lydia Newquist; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 18 at the Cawker City United Methodist Church followed by burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 PM Wednesday at the Church, with family present from 7-8 PM. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice.
