Mark Allen Obert

Mark Allen Obert was born May 18, 1947 in Beloit, Kansas to Wilbur C. and Ruth (Heitschmidt) Obert. He departed this life on November 20, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 58.
Mark attended Westbranch Rural School, Esbon High School, and the North Central Kansas Technical College. He worked for Foley Tractor Company in Wichita, Kansas until he was drafted into the United States Army on December 14, 1966. He served in Vietnam for 11 months and 22 days, and received his honorable discharge on September 27, 1968 in Oakland, California.
He returned to Esbon and worked for Esbon Grain Company and helped his dad on the family farm. The following year he began working on a business degree at Fort Hays State University. While attending college, he married Kay Kriley at Esbon on May 27, 1972. They were the proud parents of two sons, Brian Kenneth and Justin Mark.
Following graduation, Mark began a career in insurance sales for the Kansas Farmer Magazine, finally settling in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mark later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and became a salesman for the American Tire Company. While living in Las Vegas, Mark was involved in an accident and as a result was confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life. Mark endured several surgeries which involved long hospital stays, but always maintained a positive attitude. When able, he would go back to the tire store and enjoyed watching sports on television.
Mark leaves to mourn his passing his sons, Brian Obert of Austin, Texas, and Justin Obert of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his parents, Wilbur and Ruth Obert of Beloit; two sisters, Dixie Larson and her husband Kennard of Kearney, Nebraska, and Jeanette Luke and her husband Charles of Beloit; one brother, Steven Obert of Roseland, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, November 28, at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Burial will be at the Esbon Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be given to the Esbon American Legion Post. There will be no visitation - the body was cremated.
