Mark Nathaniel Sahlfeld, 65, lost his battle with heart issues on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at the Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems in Beloit.

Mark was born in Beloit June 11,1960 and lived in Beloit all of his life. He was born to Joe and Mary (Cullum) and grew up a country boy, riding horses, raising pigs, and just doing what good ole country boys did back in the day. His five sisters, Kathy, Cyndy, Debby, Peggy, and Tammy, loved to spoil their ornery brother (‘Buckwheat’) and his older brother Tony was admired by Mark all of his life.

Mark graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Beloit in 1978.

Mark married Sharon (Hesket, from Mankato) in 1984, for 29 years. In the years following they remained close and loved each other always. The biggest accomplishment for the couple has been their three sons, Matthew Joseph, Mitchell Everett, and Monty Ray, they were so blessed to raise together. These three boys meant everything to Mark and he enjoyed everything in their lives. Growing up, his children were taught how to work hard, play hard, and create their own accomplishments. Mark enjoyed taking them out in the country for bonfires, camping, and hiking, and to the lake for fishing, boating, and skiing. He would have fun pulling his boys around behind a mower after snow storms and he provided wood for the stoves in his houses, through hard work of cutting. Even when getting stuck in the snow or mud, those times were truly fun times. Mark so enjoyed his boys sporting events and was always there for them.

Mark was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan (win or lose), loved the game of football, and was able to attend a few games during his time with his brother. He also made memories with his son Monty, hanging the flag colors before the games.

When granddaughter Everleigh later arrived to son Matt, that beam of light from those beautiful brown eyes sparked once again. Oh how she has been a true Godsend and oh how she has loved her Grandpa Mark. Mark would do anything for his children and grandchild and was so proud of each and every one of them.

Mark worked in the Agriculture field all of his life and recently retired from his trucking job. He was a hard worker and enjoyed bulldozing, combining, trucking, and anything that had to do with Agriculture. He could whip together a woodwork project, work on motorcycles and restore vehicles. He was also an avid Harley Davidson fan and loved to ride when he could.

Mark is survived by his sons, Matt, Mitchell (Caitlyn), Monty, and granddaughter Everleigh Sahlfeld. His brother, Tony (Shirley) Sahlfeld, Knob Noster, MO.; sisters, Kathleen O’Neil, Manhattan; Bear (Yadi Flannery) Sahlfeld, Truth or Consequences, NM; Debi Coburn, Topeka; Peggy (Greg) Askins, Hays; Tammy (Allen) Eilert, Beloit. And numerous nieces and nephews; grand nieces and grand nephews, and a great nephew.

Mark was preceded in death by Joe M. Sahlfeld (father) and Mary Ann Cullum (mother), Beloit (married in 1947); brother-in-law Richard O’Neil and niece Amber Leigh Stroede and nephew Dillon Donald Stroede, both of Beloit.

Mark's funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 15, with a 10 a.m. rosary and a 10:30 a.m. funeral service with Fr. Konrade presiding, at Roberts Family Funeral Home, 910 North Campbell Ave. in Beloit. A graveside service will follow at St. John's Cemetery. A dinner will be held afterwards at the Knights of Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Funeral Expense Fund with checks made payable to Mitchell Sahlfeld.

Mark was a fighter and battled to the end and is now no longer in pain. He will always be remembered and loved.
