Marlene M. Sarbaum

Marlene Marion Sarbaum was born October 10, 1935 to Benjamin and Lillian Johnson Wagner at Albany Oregon, and departed this life of 81 years Wednesday evening, November 30, 2016 at Caring Hearts Senior Care Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Marlene married James "Jim" Sarbaum on January 10, 1954 at Lamoure, North Dakota. Two children Pamela and Shellie were born to this happy union.

"Jim" made serving his country his career, having served in the United States Army in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. This required them to move frequently and they lived in a number of locales including Colorado, Japan, and Germany. After his retirement in 1975, they settled in Concordia, Kansas and later moved to Glasco. He died on February 22, 2010.

Marlene loved children and caring for people and her family. She was always quick to stand up for the underdog every time. She was the consummate homemaker and later became a nurse's aide at Mt. Joseph Nursing Home in Concordia and cared for her mother. Her beloved dachshund Irmgard was her constant companion, living to be age 19.

Besides caregiving, she loved auctions, garage sales and enjoyed collecting and refinishing tables. Marlene enjoyed her card club and generously volunteered many an hour at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Glasco Senior Center.

Marlene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Her parents, husband James, brothers Terry and Jerry Wagner preceded her in death.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Pamela Southers of Wichita, Shellie Kolden and husband Wayne of Scandia, Minnesota; one sister Dee Flynn of North Dakota; two grandchildren Shawn Sarbaum and wife Tanya of Wichita, Kimberly Allen and husband Adrian of Wisconsin; three great grandchildren Jacob Sarbaum, Alexandria Molony, and Jolene Allen, along with many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 5, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glasco. Burial will follow in Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Dean Funeral Home in Glasco.
