Martha M. Koster

December 30, 1926 — February 19, 2014

Martha Mary (King) Koster was born on December 30th, 1926 to Dr. Chester and Florence (Jones) King and departed this life on February 19, 2014 at the age of 87 years, 1 month, 20 days surrounded by her family. Born at the Mitchell County Hospital, Martha was a resident of Cawker City her entire life.
In her early years Martha lost her father at the age of 7 and grew up on the family farm with her mother and brother Chester King. She loved animals and attended the Cawker City Schools graduating in 1944 and went on to Kansas State University where she graduated in 1948 majoring in Biology. She then returned to Cawker City where she taught High School for 2 years. It was on May 20, 1950 that she married Cecil Koster at the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Seven children, Karen, Bruce, Rebecca, Nola, Nina, Jeff and Kent were born to this union.
She was a homemaker who loved cooking, sewing and gardening and taking care of her home. She helped found the 4-H program in the Cawker City area and taught many local girls the art of cooking and sewing. Martha was known by many to have made the best Cinnamon rolls in the area. She also utilized recycling and economizing to an art form long before it became popular or well known. She was very interested in following her children's and grandchildren's sports and activities.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1934; mother in 1966; and brother Chester in 1999; grandson Jarod Sloan; great-grandson Evan Boehner; in-laws Marcella (Warren) Hyde, Richard Koster, Harold Koster, Jerome Koster, and Clifford Quenzer.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years Cecil N. Koster, children Karen (Norval) Boehner of Oswego, KS; Bruce Koster of Salina, KS; Becky (Doug) Wallace of Manhattan, KS; Nola Sloan of Wichita, KS; Nina (Brian) Schmitz of Beloit; Jeffery (Brenda) Koster of Formosa, KS; and Kent Koster of Cawker City, KS; 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; in laws Anna King, of Sausalito, CA, Charles (Leona) Koster, of Lakeside, CO, Delores Quenzer, of Valley Center, KS, Robert Koster of Cawker City, KS, Henry (Phyllis) Koster, of Salina, KS, Marilyn Lingg and husband Wayne, of Alma, NE, Raymond (Yvonne) Koster, of Laddonia, Mo., and Janice Koster, of Loveland, CO; Aline Koster, of Denver, CO; and Rosie Koster, of Cawker City, KS; and cousins Mary Iles of Petoskey MI, and Richard Lyons of Emporia, KS.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, February 22 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. A parish rosary service will be at 7 PM Friday, February 21 at the Church, and visitation will be from 5 PM until the Rosary Service begins. Memorials may be given to the Charity of the Donors' Choice.
