Martha "Joan" Neifert was born on April 21, 1931 on the family farm south of Glen Elder, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde and Elsie Neff Porter. She died early Monday, June 17, 2019 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 88. She grew up and spent most of her life in the Glen Elder area, where she graduated from Glen Elder High School and met her future husband, Lowell Neifert. Following graduation, she attended Brown Mackie for two years before returning to Glen Elder. On September 19, 1951, she was united in marriage with Lowell while he was home on furlough. They were privileged to spend more than 66 years of marriage together until his death in June, 2018. Joan served as the school cook for many years. She also loved to cook at home for the family, as well as sew. And in her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her flowers, decorating cakes, and spending time taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, and the Community Club, and was an active member in the Glen Elder Christian Church, which was very important to her. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Diane Weber; and her siblings, Thelma Rominger, Dale Porter, and Lois Sieh.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Debra Stalcup and husband Jim of Glen Elder; sons, Steve and wife Deborah of Hendersonville, TN, and Jeff and significant other Debbie Butvin of Plano, TX; son-in-law, Ivan Weber and wife Janet of Concordia; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, June 22 at the Glen Elder Christian Church. Visitation will be from 1-6 PM Friday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Church or Solomon Valley Hospice.
