Mary Alice Gentry

Mary Alice Gentry was born to George and Christine Sahlfeld Budke on February 25, 1938 in Beloit, Kansas. She died on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 20 days.

Mary Alice was a life-long resident of Beloit, and graduated from St. John's High School in the Class of 1956.

On November 4, 1957, Mary Alice Budke was united in marriage to Yale Gentry at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beloit, and to this happy union three children were born – Dan, Karen, and Steve. Mary Alice and Yale were able to celebrate their 45 ^th Wedding Anniversary in 2002.

Mary Alice worked for 32 years as a cook for Beloit High School, followed by several years at St. John's High School. After she retired in 2000, Mary Alice and Yale took their dream trip to Alaska. She enjoyed talking about all of the things they saw. She enjoyed crocheting, making Rosaries, and playing games with family or friends. She also enjoyed working on her yard in the summer, and feeding the birds and squirrels in the winter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Yale in 2003; one son Steve in 1998; her parents; two brothers, Duane in 2000 and Paul in 1971; and two nephews.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are one son, Dan and wife Carma Gentry of Salina; one daughter, Karen Dankenbring and husband Dwight of Gardner, Kansas; and one sister, Rosella Krier of Beloit. She will be deeply missed by 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was a life-long member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday, December 21 at St. John's Catholic Church. A rosary service will be at 7 PM Wednesday, December 20 at Roberts Family Funeral Home, and visitation will be from 1 PM until the rosary service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or St. John's Catholic Church.
