Mary Ellen Lange was born October 29, 1937 to Felix Cornelius and Gertrude Huberdina Wessling Gengler on the family farm north of Beloit, Kansas. She departed this life of 78 years Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
A lifelong resident of the Beloit area, Mary attended Plum Creek country school for eight years and then graduated from St. John's High School in the Class of 1955.
It was on September 14, 1957 that she married Jimmy Paul Lange at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beloit. Four sons and five daughters were born to this union.
Mary worked for two years as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. She later worked the night shift for eleven years at the Mitchell County Hospital, and for thirty-one years she was an x-ray and lab assistant at the Beloit Medical Center, retiring in October, 2009.
A quiet, humble, and gentle person, Mary cherished every opportunity to live out her deep and devout Catholic faith, touching the hearts and lives of others along the way, always putting others first and herself last. Mary enjoyed her large family and looked forward to cooking for them. Seldom did she miss an event that any of her children and grandchildren were in. Music was a key part of her life; she and Jim adopted "Proud Mary" as their theme song and she always loved the music of Elvis. Holiday decorating was another one of her passions, making beautiful wreaths and other items to adorn her home.
Mary was a devout member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John's Ladies Guild and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Melvin, Walter, Robert, Harold and Raymond Gengler and three sisters Helen Moxter, Christine Kadel and Dorothy Gengler.
