Mary E. Mcginnis

September 5, 1907 — September 30, 2007

Mary E. (Hurlbut) McGinnis was born at Sylvan Grove, Kansas on September 5, 1907 to Mortimer and Florence Hurlbut. She passed this world on September 30, 2007 at the age of 100 years and 25 days. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Mary was married to Roy F. McGinnis at Hoxie, Kansas on April 15, 1925. To This marriage three children were born, Florence, Clair, and Forest.
Mary and Roy spent the first four years of their marriage farming with Mary's family in Western Kansas. The next six years they farmed north of Concordia, Kansas. Those were the tough years on farmers, so they moved to Beloit, where Mary and Roy worked at the old Mill Street Inn owned by Mary's parents. Roy also worked days in construction in and around Beloit.
During those difficult years, Roy kept some of his harvesting equipment, and during the summers he did local harvesting in and around Concordia. After several years of the local harvesting, Mary and Roy decided to enter the custom harvesting occupation, starting in Southern Oklahoma, and traveling north through Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Starting in 1944, it was a total family business which they enjoyed for 36 years meeting their many friends, raising the three children, several grandchildren, and sharing many wonderful experiences as a working family. Mary felt that sharing the life events were the happiest times of her long life.
Mary has been preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; her daughter, Florence E. (McGinnis) File; and her son, Clair F. McGinnis.
Mary was a very friendly, outgoing person that valued her many friends. She really enjoyed card playing, being involved in two evening clubs, and whenever possible, played bridge or pitch with all of her good friends day or night during her later years.
Mary belonged to the Rebekah Lodge, and was a past noble grand of the Lodge for 50 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Beloit for 50 years, and received great comfort from her beliefs and the Church.
Mary was a great believer in the active participation in her family, and instilled a family closeness that is reflected in her desire that each member of the family strives to better themselves and their families through education and hard work. During her long life, Mary tried to create the special memories for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. This she accomplished in the hearts of them all.
Survivors are her son, Forest and wife June of Beloit and their children, Kimberly Porter of Las Cruces, NM, Kyle McGinnis of Surprise, AZ, Randy McGinnis with the Air Force assigned to Ramstein, Germany, and their families; Mary's daughter's children, Bradford File of Marysville or Lawrence, KS, Elaine Campbell of Beloit, Jerry File of Virginia, Randy File of Enterprise, KS, Marsha of Topeka, Carter Lee File of Hutchinson, and their families; Mary's daughter-in-law, Stella (Carrico) McGinnis and her children, Steve McGinnis, Michele Hampton, Melissa Totman, and their families of El Paso, TX.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, October 5, at the Beloit Presbyterian Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church or the Beloit Senior Center. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
