Mary "Kathleen" (Chestnutt) Mullen a long-time resident of Glasco Kansas died peacefully at her daughter's home on February 21, 2023 at the age of 95.
Kathleen was born on July 4, 1927 to Robert J and Ollie (Altman) Chestnutt. She grew up in Concordia, Ks along with her older brothers, Bob and Bill.
After graduating from Concordia High School, Kathleen had a 35-year career at the phone company, both in Kansas and in California.
In 1949 Kathleen married Kenneth (Kenny) Mullen of Concordia and made their home in Tustin California. They had 3 children; Dennis, Rodney and Susan.
Their lives were very active and enjoyed traveling, camping on the beach and in Mexico, motorcycle riding, golfing, and hosting parties for family and friends.
Kathleen lost her husband in 1975 to a sudden heart attack while they and their daughter were driving home to California from visiting relatives in Glasco.
After retiring in 1983 Kathleen moved to Glasco to be near her brother Bob Chestnutt and his wife Elizabeth Lee (Noel). It was during this time that she met her companion
of 33 years Milton Henderson. Although they never wanted to marry, they enjoyed each other's company, every day, whether it was simply staying home and cooking dinner
or going out to the movies, dancing, dining, vacationing and sightseeing. Through the years Milt became well respected and loved by Kathleen's family as well.
Kathleen was passionate about her Catholic faith and loved her church, where she was very active until her dementia became more severe and she had to
leave Glasco to go live with her daughter in Phoenix, Az.
She is survived and will be forever cherished by her children: Rodney (Susie) of Orange, Ca; Sue (Mike) Wieboldt of Phoenix Az; her nephew Robb (Jolene) Chestnutt of
Kansas City, Ks; her niece Janie (Richard) McCabe of Michigan; 3 beloved grandchildren, Alycia, Aaron and Jonathan all of Orange, Ca.; 5 great grandchildren; and many dear friends
in and around Glasco and Concordia.
Kathleen was preceded in death by both of her parents and brothers, her husband Kenny (1975) and her son Dennis (1988).
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasco on Saturday, March 11th at 11am. For those interested, the Rosary will start at 10am. Everyone is invited to a luncheon in the Parish Hall following the burial at the Glasco Cemetery.
