Mary spent her childhood years growing up on the family farm east of Beloit. She attended St. John's Grade School and was a 1941 graduate of St. John's High School. Mary felt a calling to become a Nurse and following high school graduation she moved to Kansas City and received her nurses training at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO. Mary was a Diploma Graduate of the Class of 1944. She was passionate about patient care, always taking the needs of her patients to heart and was the consummate stickler for perfection, satisfied only when things were done correctly. Mary spent some time working as a Private Duty Nurse, however the majority of her career she worked at St. Joseph Hospital and retired as Head Nurse in August of 1986.
Besides nursing, Mary shared a home with her sister Betty and was the homemaker and loved cooking and taking care of her home. Mary enjoyed watching or listening to sports and always looked forward to a round of golf. Betty's work at TWA allowed both of them to travel to many states and countries. Their trip to Rome and tour of the Vatican was especially memorable. They retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1988 where their home was always open to family and friends to vacation or visit and enjoy their gracious hospitality. In 1999 they returned to their hometown of Beloit to live closer to family.
Mary was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, and the VFW Post 6242 Auxiliary, all of Beloit. While in Bella Vista, she attended St. Bernard's Parish.
