Mary Ann Walker

Mary Ann Walker was born on March 10, 1921 on a farm near Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Hazel Altimus Johnson. She died early Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 91 years, 6 months, and 15 days.
Mary Ann grew up and attended the country school District #1, and later graduated from Beloit High School.
On January 14, 1945, she was united in marriage with Kenneth Walker in Beloit at her parents' home. To this union a son, Lynn was born. They were privileged to spend more than 48 years of marriage together until he died in July 1993.
Mary Ann had a sharp wit, and was very humorous – she always loved to laugh and visit with people. She was also a tireless worker and was had a very strong will. Some of her most favorite times were celebrating the 4th of July, and they always had friends and family out to their house for a big celebration.
She had served in several county offices, including under the County Treasurer and the Abstractor for several years. On November 6, 1968, she was elected as the County Treasurer herself, a position that she held until she retired in 1984.
In addition to her husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Lynn in 1970; her brother, Harry Johnson; and her sister, Loretta Thompson.
Mary Ann is survived by three grandchildren, Kevin Walker of Wichita, Shelly (Ed) Coover, and Ryan Holinde; three great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Raymond (Floreine) Walker of Beloit; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Johnson of Beloit; two very special friends, Delores Spear and Charlene Plymire; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, September 28 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.
